Sampdoria vs Bologna

Six games remain in Serie A (SA) with Sampdoria (W1, D1, L3) hosting
Bologna (W1, D2, L2) at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

Just five points separate ninth-placed Sampdoria from the top-six in SA,
but time is running out for their quest for European qualification. A
string of poor results pulled Sampdoria down the table after spending
most of the season in the top six. But just one win in six games, with
four losses, is not the type of form needed to qualify for the European

Over their last ten fixtures overall, Sampdoria have conceded two goals
to every goal scored. But, losing only one of their last eight home
games (W4, D3, L1), Sampdoria have the fourth-best home record in SA
this season with ten wins in 16 games.

That record comes on the line against Bologna (11th) who have picked up
a lone point in six away games. However, a cushion of 11 points over the
relegation zone is a welcome buffer, which could have been more had it
not been for a run of three losses in six games (W1, D2, L3).

Bologna have a terrible record against top-ten sides, losing seven of
their last eight games. In the 14 matches against top-eight this season,
Bologna have picked up just three points and amassed 11 defeats. Since
1996, they have lost nine head-to-head fixtures in all competitions
against Sampdoria, drawing ten times while winning just seven.

Players to watch: It’s time for consistency for Duvan Zapata, whose last
three goals have won six points for Sampdoria.

Simone Verdi seems to be the lone ranger Bologna, whose two goals and
four assists have won them seven of their last eight points.

Stat attack: Bologna have three wins in their last four encounters, but
are winless in ten visits to Sampdoria (D3, L7).

The last five encounters between these sides were won by the hosts.
